A Perfect Day in Boston: Downtown Sights, Dinner, and a Red Sox Game at Fenway
Visiting Boston was the second day of our anniversary trip, following a day spent in Salem. Downtown Boston was only 17 minutes from our Airbnb in Woburn. The only things planned for our visit to Boston was the Red Sox game at 3:05pm and dinner reservations at 7pm, so we were very flexible with our time. I really had no idea what to expect, but Boston ended up being a very charming city with a lot of great sights and food options.
Morning
We wanted to make the most of our day, so we headed to downtown Boston at 8am. It was recommended to us to go to Tatte for breakfast and coffee, so that’s where we went. Luckily, there was plenty of street parking, and it’s free on Sunday’s! I got an amazing seasonal pumpkin oat latte and breakfast sandwich on sourdough. We got there just before the morning crowd, so we lucked out with a table inside. Our total bill was $40 and completely worth it.
From here, we walked toward through Boston Public Gardens and into the Boston Commons area, where we stumbled upon a car show. We walked at least 2 miles around this area before figuring out what to do next. With no itinerary for several more hours, we really didn’t know what to do with ourselves. We ended up driving to the parking garage near Fenway Park. Unfortunately, parking anywhere around Fenway on a game day is not cheap, so parking was $60, but we were parked there for about 10 hours.
It was still so early in the day, that we got to walk around Fenway without any crowds or craziness. We bought some souvenirs at the Red Sox store for $15 and wandered around the area. At this point, it was about noon and we still had several hours to kill until the game. We walked to the Prudential Center shopping area and got tickets for View Boston.

Afternoon & Evening
For $74 total, we each got the basic ticket to go up to the top floor of the Prudential Center to get panoramic views of Boston. There’s options for tickets that include drinks at the bar, but we opted out of that. We spent less than an hour on the 2 floors at the top of the building taking in the great views on a bright, blue, sunny day. On our way out of here, we grabbed some cannolis from Eataly for $12. It was pretty hot by now and I needed a refreshing bevvy, so we HAD to stop at a Dunkin for refreshers for $7 – they really hit the spot.
We walked back toward Fenway and wanted to get food at Yard House, but the wait was over an hour. We ended up grabbing sandwiches from Bennett’s sandwich shop just a couple blocks from Fenway for $33. It was getting busy in the area as the game was about to start, so we got to our seats 30 minutes before the game started. Our tickets were $96 each and beyond/behind first base. We found out that the game we were at was the last regular season home game, so the crowd felt electric. I love a live baseball game, but as a Javy Baez fan, I was particularly more interested since the Red Sox were playing the Tigers.
After a Red Sox win, we had an hour until our dinner reservation at UNI. With our Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card, we get a $300 credit ($150 every 6 months) toward restaurants reserved through Resy, and UNI was one of those restaurants. This was definitely a pricey meal, but we knew going into it that it would be. We were also celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary, so we were fine with it – plus $150 was going to be reimbursed from our credit card.
We were able to get sat for our reservation an hour early, so we didn’t have to wait until 7pm. We did the whole shebang – drinks, appetizers, entrees, and dessert. We indulged in wagyu beef dumplings, brussels sprouts, 2 sushi rolls, 2 sashimi plates, and croissant bread pudding. I learned that I do not like sashimi, but I really enjoyed everything else! Our bill was a lovely $211 before tip. We had a nice digestion walk back to the car in the parking garage and headed back to the Airbnb for a solid night’s sleep before the drive back in the morning.
Total spent for a day in Boston for 2 people: $644
