1 Week in Italy
Italy was the first stop of our honeymoon before Greece. Initially, our honeymoon was supposed to be just Greece, but I added Italy last minute. There are so many places to visit in Italy that we had to just pick two due to the one-week time frame. We didn’t get to Venice or Lake Como, but hope to get there some day. We started and ended in Rome with a trip to Florence in the middle.
Glimpse of our Italy Itinerary:
- Rome / Sep 5 – 8
- Florence / Sep 8 – 10
- Rome / Sep 10 – 11
- **There are dedicated posts above for each Italy location that goes more into detail on activities, food, and prices.**
Arriving to Rome
We arrived in Rome around 6am and took the train to the nearest train station to our Airbnb. We had to walk almost a mile to our Airbnb, but that was okay as it was not a busy area. Our Airbnb was similar to a studio apartment; it was an open concept on the second floor with a small kitchen, decent sized bathroom, and a loft queen bed. We loved the location because it was away from the crowds and felt more authentic and local.

After a few days exploring Rome in the heat and averaging about 30,000 steps a day, we headed to Florence for a couple days. We took the train that was an hour and 25 minutes from Rome to Florence. We opted out of the bus tickets we already purchased because we wanted to get their faster and more comfortably. We booked our train tickets online the night before so we didn’t have to navigate the ticket kiosks at the station.
We arrived in Florence and walked to our Airbnb, which took about 30 minutes. The streets are narrow and small, so we didn’t think it would be beneficial to try and get a taxi because we could walk faster than being stuck in traffic on these small streets. We made it to our Airbnb which was directly across from the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze, aka, where the Statue of David lives. The location of the Airbnb was perfect! It was right in the middle of everywhere we wanted to go without having to walk crazy far. It also had a washer, so we could wash some clothes while we were out and about.

After a quick couple days in Florence, we had to get back to Rome for our flight to Mykonos. We bought return tickets to Rome the night before. We walked to the train station and waited for our train back. Once we got to the train station in Rome, we took another train to the FCO airport per the recommendation of the Airbnb host. We navigated from the airport to the Airbnb using a cheap bus service the Airbnb host had explained how to use in great detail. It was confusing, but we were able to get a ride for €2.
We got to our Airbnb in Fiumicino Lazio for one night. We chose this place because it was cheap and closer to the airport than being near the city center. It was near the beach, so we watched the sunset and ate a lovely dinner beachside before heading to bed. We woke up and walked to the bus stop and took the same cheap shuttle back to the airport at 8am to start the next adventure of our honeymoon in Greece.
